Our First SPOOKY Visit

Last week during class we visited two church graveyards! The two graveyards we visited were St.Patrick Church and Cathedral Church. During out visit to these beautiful churchyards we learned about the different grave markers and the symbolism behind them.

This grave marked the grave of 'Mattie' Mathews. This type of marker appears to be a headstone that has fallen over.  This grave is located at Cathedral Church.

This mausoleum houses the Johnston family a prominent Charleston family. The Mausoleum is designed using Greek revival style. The grave holds five members of the Johnston family. This grave is also in the Cathedral Church cemetery.

This bedstead grave holds Perry and Sue Guerrero.  A couple buried in Cathedral Church cemetery who dies around 1910.

This grave marks Elizabeth Reeves who died in 1984. This  die on socket headstone  is located  in the Cathedral Church cemetery.

Another mausoleum I saw in the Cathedral Church cemetery.

This gravestone is a die and socket also at the Cathedral Church.

This is another mausoleum, surrounded by headstones. This grave site is at Cathedral Church

This box tomb is at St.Patrick's Church in the front entryway It holds the body of a former loved priest  who passed .

This headstone is another die on socket with a lovely carving of a sleeping cherub, at St. Patrick's Church.

Finally this ledger found at St. Patrick's Church, has the story of the  deceased with a beautiful manger carving on top and a cross on the bottom.
